Nothing Like Seeing The Fruits Of Your Labor

Finally got my hands on the Grimm Fairy Tales ‘Neverland’ comic that I drew the cover art to, and all I can say is AMAZING! It’s amazing to finally see my work published and just an amazing piece of art if I do say so myself ;)

I wont make this a long post as I’m still kinda speechless about it (yeah I know its not a huge deal to some but for me its a huge first step) I’m just gonna sit here and stare at it some more. href=”http://ejayrussell.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/000_0020.jpg”>[/caption]

You Could Wind Up Famous

So today marks the first day that I’ve posted a page featuring people who I’ve met and worked with a few years back. As I initially stated when first talking about the concept behind “A$$hole”, the book is a sort of fantasy reflection of my own life, and as such it was bound to feature people in my life. Both those who have come and gone and those still here. In doing so I knew at some point there would be characterizations of some that wouldn’t quite sit well with everyone. And to that I say ‘So Fuckin’ What’. The reality is that entire scope of the book is satirical in nature, add to that the characterization is based around my personal feelings towards those being included. The long & short of that is, if you’re cool with me I think you’ll enjoy the way your character is portrayed in the book, if you’ve ever fucked me over or generally pissed me off then maybe ‘A$$hole’ isn’t a title you’re going to want to read. And if you happen to be in that handful of people I invest enough emotion in to truly say I hate, well, you brought this on yourself.

Now lest anyone think I’m using the book as a forum to spew venom let me assure you now, that’s not the case. The same camera I have pointed towards everyone else will be pointed at me as well. And as many highlights, as many funny, interesting and great things as I’ll be showing from my own life, I’ll also be showing the personal, embarrassing and occasionally awful events as well. I look at it as a small amount of suffering needed for my art – or some other kind of bourgeois shit like that.

As an additional protection to anyone who may feel like they never wanted to appear in comic form – or even cop to knowing me, I’ve made name changes and alterations to the appearances so that there is no actual reference to anyone I know (and as all legalese in this regard states “any similarities to persons living or dead is purely coincidental”). So you wont be able to find your name or in some cases even your face in the book, but if you’ve had the pleasure of joining me in my misadventures you’ll know which character is (somewhat loosely) based on you.

Well that’s all I have to say for now, except for keep reading A$$hole, keep checking out the site ejayrussell.com, and keep support the arts (my art in particular).
